About The Speaker

Tay Kheng Soon graduated in architecture at a time when the socio-political conditions of the early 60’s in Singapore shaped the generation of architects and their work - but particularly in Kheng Soon’s case in many significant ways. The emergence of locally trained professional architects in Singapore coincided with decolonization and a rising consciousness of their role in the building of a post-colonial nation. In 1968 Lee Kuan Yew invited him to join the PAP but Tay refused. Tay Kheng Soon has been a practicing architect since he started Design Partnership in 1967, a design consultancy which among its landmark designs were the People’s Park Complex; The Golden Mile Complex.…

Philip Cox is the founding partner of Cox Architecture. He commenced practice with Ian McKay in 1963 and formed his own firm, Philip Cox and Associates in 1964. The firm has grown to become Cox Architecture with over 500 personnel.   Philip Cox graduated from Sydney University with honours in architecture in 1962 and has received numerous awards in recognition of his contribution to architecture, including the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) Gold Medal in 1984 and Life Fellowship to the RAIA in 1987.
